  • EYE, A'DAM Lookout and NDSM

Who should stay here

  • Budget travellers
  • Return visitors
  • Fans of modern art, design and festivals

Not ideal if…

  • You want to step out onto a canal
  • You want to walk everywhere
  • You want lively streets every evening

What it's like

Noord was shipyards and factories until recently; now the waterfront by the ferry landing has the EYE Film Museum and the A'DAM Tower with its rooftop swing, and further west the NDSM wharf is a creative hub of studios, festivals and a monthly flea market. Inland it's quiet residential streets and green space.

Hotels are newer and cheaper than in the centre, and the free ferry to Centraal takes a few minutes and runs day and night. The flip side is that every trip starts with a boat or the metro, and away from the waterfront there's little to do in the evening.
