What it's like

Phi Phi Don, the only inhabited island, has a car-free village on a sandy isthmus between two bays, packed with dive shops, restaurants and beach bars that party late. Boat trips go to Phi Phi Leh's Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon, and quieter resorts sit on the island's northern beaches.

It's unforgettable for snorkelling, scenery and nightlife. The village is crowded and noisy, rooms are basic for the price, and there are no cars, so luggage goes by porter or boat.
