Why stay here

  • Walk of Fame, Hollywood Bowl and Griffith nearby
  • Metro B Line to Downtown and Universal
  • Cheaper hotels than the Westside

Who should stay here

  • First-time visitors
  • Film fans
  • Budget travellers

Not ideal if…

  • You want the beach
  • You want polished streets
  • You'd rather avoid busy tourist strips at night

What it's like

Hollywood Boulevard is where the Walk of Fame stars and the TCL Chinese Theatre's handprints draw the crowds, with the Dolby Theatre, home of the Oscars, next door. The Hollywood Bowl, Griffith Observatory and the hiking trails up to the Hollywood Sign are close by, and the studio tours are a short ride over the hill.

It's the most central and best-connected base, with the Metro B Line to Downtown and Universal Studios, and cheaper hotels than the Westside. Hollywood Boulevard itself is touristy and gritty, especially at night; the streets just north are calmer.
