What it's like

South Yarra is stylish and residential: Chapel Street runs south through it with fashion boutiques, cafés and bars that get busier towards Prahran and Windsor, and Toorak Road has upmarket shops. The Royal Botanic Gardens and the Shrine of Remembrance are at its north-western edge.

It's comfortable and safe, with a train station that gets you to the CBD in about 10 minutes. It's more about shopping and dining than sights, and some of the nightlife on Chapel Street is loud at weekends.
