What it's like

Bang Tao has an 8 km beach and, behind it, Laguna Phuket: a complex of luxury resorts set around lagoons, with a golf course, shuttle boats and shared facilities. Beach clubs, cafés and a weekend market add some life, and Surin's smaller beach is just to the south.

It's the best area for a polished resort stay, and it's closer to the airport than Patong or Kata. It's spread out, so you'll rely on resort shuttles and taxis, and it's quiet at night.
