What it's like

Silom Road and Sathorn Road run from Lumphini Park towards the river through the city's business district. By day it's offices and street-food lunches; at night the rooftop bars of the towers open and the Patpong night market and the bars around Silom Soi 2 and 4 fill up.

Transport is excellent, with the BTS and MRT meeting at Sala Daeng and Si Lom, and Lumphini Park is the best green space in the centre for a morning run. Some of the city's best hotels are on Sathorn. Patpong's go-go bars are part of the scene, but they're confined to a couple of side streets.
