What it's like

Puerto Morelos has kept its small-town feel, with a leaning lighthouse, a square of cafés and restaurants and a long beach with the Puerto Morelos Reef just offshore, great for snorkelling. Big all-inclusive resorts line the coast north and south of the village.

It's halfway between the airport and Playa del Carmen, ideal for a quiet beach stay. Nightlife is low-key, and the resorts are a drive from the village.
