What it's like

Wan Chai runs from the Convention Centre and Golden Bauhinia Square on the harbour up to old streets of markets, temples and tenement buildings around Tai Yuen Street and the Blue House. It has some of the island's best local restaurants and a well-known, if seedy, bar strip on Lockhart Road.

Hotels here are better value than in Central, it's on the tram, MTR and ferry, and trade-fair visitors can walk to the Convention Centre. Prices jump during big fairs, and parts of the district are noisy at night.
