Gatwick to central London: trains, coaches and taxis

Gatwick is about 45 km south of London, but fast trains make it nearly as easy as Heathrow. Three train companies run from the same station, and contactless works on all of them.

The options

  1. Gatwick Express

Non-stop to London Victoria in about 30 minutes. Fast and comfortable, and pricier than the other trains.

    Stay nearby: Westminster · ~$320/night
  2. Southern

Also to Victoria, a few minutes slower with a couple of stops, and usually cheaper.

    Stay nearby: Westminster · ~$320/night
  3. Thameslink

Direct through London Bridge, Blackfriars, Farringdon and St Pancras, about 45 to 55 minutes. Best for the City, the South Bank and King's Cross.

    Stay nearby: King's Cross · ~$270/night
  4. Coach

National Express and easyBus run to Victoria and other stops; cheap if booked early, but slower in traffic.

  5. Taxi or private transfer

About 75 to 90 minutes to central London, more in traffic. Expensive; worth it for groups or late arrivals.
