The best time to visit London
London is a year-round city, but the best balance of weather, daylight and hotel prices is in May, June and September.
Season by season
Spring (March to May)
Mild days around 12–18°C, blossom in the parks and fewer crowds before summer. The London Marathon is in April and the Chelsea Flower Show in May.
Summer (June to August)
Long days with highs around 22–24°C and the busiest, most expensive hotels. Trooping the Colour (June), Wimbledon (late June to July) and Notting Hill Carnival (late August bank holiday weekend).
Autumn (September to November)
September is often warm and calmer than summer. Bonfire Night fireworks are around 5 November, and the Christmas lights go on from mid-November.
Winter (December to February)
Short, cool days around 8°C. December is festive and busy; January and February have the lowest hotel prices of the year.
When hotels are cheapest
January and February are the cheapest months, along with weekdays in November. Hotels cost most in July and August, in December around Christmas and New Year, and during big events. Notting Hill hotels spike during Carnival.
