What it's like

The Opéra district is Haussmann's Paris: wide boulevards, the Palais Garnier, Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. East along the Grands Boulevards you'll find theatres, covered passages and cheaper hotels.

It's more practical than romantic. Transport is excellent (RER A and many Métro lines) and it suits shoppers and business travellers, but evenings are quieter than in the Marais.
