What it's like

The Centro Storico is the Rome of piazzas and fountains: the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo de' Fiori and the Trevi Fountain are all a few minutes apart, with trattorias and gelato shops on every lane.

There's no Metro in the old centre itself, but you'll walk almost everywhere. Streets around the main piazzas are busy until late, and rooms in old buildings are often small.
