What it's like

Shibuya is young Tokyo: the scramble crossing, huge shopping complexes, record shops and bars that stay busy late. Harajuku, Omotesando and Meiji Jingu are a short walk north.

It's slightly smaller and easier to navigate than Shinjuku. Ebisu and Daikanyama, one stop south, are calmer and more grown-up if you want Shibuya's convenience without the crowds.

  • Dogenzaka

Nightlife and small hotels up the hill.

  • Ebisu & Daikanyama
