What it's like

The Belváros is the old heart of Pest, squeezed between the Danube and the Kiskörút ring road. Váci utca runs through it as a pedestrian shopping street, the Danube Promenade has views across to the castle, and the Great Market Hall sits at its southern end by Liberty Bridge, with Gellért Baths just across the river.

It's the most central base, with everything walkable and metro lines meeting at Deák Ferenc tér. Váci utca is touristy, with some overpriced restaurants, and it's busy in summer.
