What it's like

Buda's Castle Hill is a walled plateau of cobbled lanes and pastel houses, crowned by Matthias Church and the fairy-tale Fisherman's Bastion, with the Royal Palace and the National Gallery at its southern end. The funicular climbs from the Chain Bridge, and the views over the river to Parliament are the best in the city.

It's the most romantic and peaceful place to stay. It's quiet at night with few restaurants, and getting to Pest means a bus ride or a steep walk down.
