What it's like

Uptown grew up around the Galleria, the biggest shopping mall in Texas, with luxury brands and an ice rink. Post Oak Boulevard is lined with office towers and upscale hotels, and the 20-metre Williams Waterwall is a striking free sight. The Houstonian's leafy Memorial area and Memorial Park are just to the north.

It's the best base for shopping and for business in the Uptown offices, with many hotels at good weekend rates. It's car-dependent and traffic is heavy, and it's 20 minutes or more from Downtown and the museums.
