What it's like

The Heights was one of Texas's first planned suburbs, and its tree-lined streets are full of restored Victorian homes and craftsman bungalows. 19th Street has antique and vintage shops, White Oak Drive and Washington Avenue have bars and live music, and the Heights Hike and Bike Trail follows an old rail line.

It's a relaxed, local base that's close to Downtown by car. There are very few hotels, no rail line, and the main sights are a drive away.
