What it's like

Bairro Alto is Lisbon's nightlife quarter: by day its narrow lanes are quiet, but at night thousands spill out of tiny bars with drinks in hand. Just north, Príncipe Real is the city's most stylish neighbourhood, with grand mansions, concept stores, restaurants and the gardens of Praça do Príncipe Real, plus the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint.

It's a great base for food, shopping and nightlife. Bairro Alto is noisy until the early hours, and the hills are steep.
