What it's like

Brickell has grown into Miami's high-rise heart, with banks, condos and hotels lining Brickell Avenue and the Brickell City Centre mall. After work its restaurants and rooftop bars fill up, and Mary Brickell Village is one of the city's most popular evening spots. The free Metromover loops through Brickell and Downtown, and Metrorail links it to the airport and Coconut Grove.

It's a polished, safe-feeling base with excellent value on weekends, when business travellers leave. There's no beach, and getting to Miami Beach takes 20–30 minutes by car.
