New York's big sights are spread over Manhattan from the Battery to the Upper West Side, so plan your days by part of town and use the subway between them.

Midtown

    Two classic observation decks. Top of the Rock has the better view, because the Empire State Building is in it.

Central Park and the Upper West Side

    Tip: The memorial is free; the museum needs a timed ticket and at least two hours.

    The official ferry from Battery Park stops at both islands; allow most of a day.
