What it's like

Just east of the old town, Işıklar Caddesi is a busy shopping street that leads down to Karaalioğlu Park, a clifftop park with views across the bay to the mountains. Hotels here are larger and more modern than in Kaleiçi, often with bigger rooms for the price.

You can walk to Hadrian's Gate in five to ten minutes and pick up trams and buses on the main roads. It feels more like a working city than a holiday district, and there's no beach, only swimming platforms below the cliffs.
