What it's like

Kuta and neighbouring Legian share a long sandy beach that's great for learning to surf and for sunsets. Behind it are shopping malls like Beachwalk, cheap restaurants, and Bali's rowdiest nightlife, especially around Jalan Legian. Waterbom Bali, a big water park, is here too.

It's the cheapest and most convenient base for a short beach stay or families on a budget. It's busy, commercial and noisy, with touts and traffic, and doesn't show Bali's quieter side.
