What it's like

Seminyak is where Bali goes upmarket: Petitenget and Seminyak beaches are lined with beach clubs for sunset cocktails, and the streets behind are full of design shops, spas and acclaimed restaurants along Jalan Kayu Aya and Jalan Petitenget. Private pool villas tucked down the lanes are popular with couples and groups.

It's a great base for food, shopping and nightlife without Kuta's rowdiness. The sea has strong currents, traffic in the narrow streets is bad, and prices are higher than elsewhere on the coast.
