Where to stay in Bali

Bali is an island, not a city, and where you stay shapes the whole trip. Stay in Seminyak for stylish beach clubs and restaurants; in Canggu for surfing, cafés and a young, creative crowd; in Kuta and Legian for budget beach holidays near the airport; in Ubud for rice terraces, temples and yoga in the cool hills; in Uluwatu for clifftop surf beaches and sunsets; in Jimbaran for seafood on the sand and big resorts; in Nusa Dua for calm water and polished family resorts; or in Sanur for a quiet, old-fashioned beach. Many visitors split their stay between the beach and Ubud. Traffic is slow, so don't plan to cross the island every day. April to October is the dry season; November to March brings heavy afternoon rain.
