What it's like

The Palm is a man-made island of a trunk and 16 fronds, ringed by a crescent where most of the big resorts stand. Each has its own beach, pools and restaurants, and the Atlantis at the tip has the Aquaventure water park and an aquarium. The View at The Palm, halfway up the trunk, looks down over it all.

It's a resort stay: lovely beaches and big hotels, but distances are long and getting off the island means a taxi or the monorail and tram. Crescent hotels can be 20–30 minutes by car from Downtown in traffic.

Best streets and sub-areas

  • The Crescent

The outer ring, home to Atlantis and most of the resorts.

  • The trunk

Apartment towers, malls and Nakheel Mall.

Getting around

Nearest stations
Palm Monorail from the Palm Gateway tram stop to Atlantis, plus taxis; most hotels run shuttles to the malls.
To Burj Khalifa
About 50 minutes
From Dubai International Airport
About 60 minutes: taxi; by public transport it's the Red Line, the tram and the Palm Monorail, well over an hour.
