What it's like

Nové Město was founded in 1348 and is now Prague's commercial centre: Wenceslas Square runs up to the National Museum, Na Příkopě has the shops, and the National Theatre and the Dancing House sit on the river embankment. Metro lines cross here, and the main station is a short walk away.

It's a practical, good-value base within walking distance of the Old Town. Wenceslas Square can feel seedy at night, and the area has less charm than the old quarters.
