The best things to do in Prague

Prague's centre is small enough to walk. The Old Town and its square are on the east bank of the Vltava; Charles Bridge crosses to Malá Strana, with Prague Castle on the hill above. The New Town, Vinohrady and Karlín wrap around the Old Town to the south and east.

Here are the 20 things we'd put on a first trip, grouped by part of the city, with the area to stay in if that part of Prague matters most to you. The Old Town and the castle are busiest from late morning to late afternoon, so see them early or late.

The city's main square, with the Gothic Týn Church and the 600-year-old clock whose apostles appear on the hour.
