Why stay here

  • The cheapest rooms in central Singapore
  • Indian food at its best
  • Downtown and North-East MRT lines

Who should stay here

  • Budget travellers
  • Food lovers
  • Travellers who like busy, characterful streets

Not ideal if…

  • You want polished, quiet streets
  • You want nightlife
  • You want big rooms and pools

What it's like

Little India is the most vivid neighbourhood in the city: Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, gold and sari shops, and the Tekka Centre's hawker stalls for biryani and dosa. On Sunday evenings the streets fill with migrant workers on their day off, and the 24-hour Mustafa Centre sells everything.

Hotels here are the best value in central Singapore, from hostels to mid-range chains, and the Downtown and North-East lines reach the rest of the city quickly. It's busy, crowded and less polished than elsewhere, and rooms can be very small.
